Hello, fellow lovers of the Legend of Zelda series! Today, we'll be discussing the characters who received the most love in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Experiencing the 100-year-old calamity firsthand, before the events of Breath of the Wild, and playing as a variety of heroes was truly special. Each character, armed with their unique skills and charm, made the gameplay incredibly engaging. Let's explore which characters captured the hearts of players, based on my experience.
Of course, we can't talk about Legend of Zelda without mentioning Link. In Age of Calamity, Link wields a variety of weapons, including one-handed swords, two-handed swords, and spears, showcasing different fighting styles. Personally, I found the speedy one-handed sword play most comfortable, but the devastating power of the two-handed sword and the wide-range coverage of the spear were also appealing. The moment I obtained the Master Sword was unforgettable. No matter the weapon, Link reliably acted as the heart of the battle, demonstrating why he was chosen as Hyrule's hero. His quiet strength shone brightly in this game.
In Breath of the Wild, Princess Zelda already displayed near-perfect wisdom and abilities. However, Age of Calamity highlights her more human side, as she struggles and strives to awaken her sealing power. While she might seem somewhat weak initially, her diverse skills utilizing the Sheikah Slate and her ranged attacks with a bow become incredibly powerful with practice. The awakened Zelda is truly god-like in her strength, sweeping across the battlefield. Watching her growth was another pleasure of this game, and the experience remains vivid. Many were captivated by Zelda's narrative and abilities.
Being able to play as Impa in her younger years was a major attraction of Age of Calamity. Her nimble movements like a ninja, and her flashy, chaotic combination attacks using clones were superb. While initially challenging to master, once you get the hang of it, she deals explosive damage, winning the hearts of many players. Impa's true value shines in boss battles; watching her decimate enemy health bars is incredibly satisfying. I personally fell in love with Impa's unique fighting style and used her as my main character for quite some time. Her charisma and skill are top-tier.
Among the four Champions, the Gerudo chief, Urbosa, undoubtedly left the strongest impression. Her mastery over lightning was visually stunning, and in gameplay, she showcases her power by wiping out large groups of enemies at once. Her confident and refreshing personality is another factor that charmed many fans. Her leadership in assisting her comrades in danger and her overwhelming combat prowess elevated her from a mere supporting character to a crucial hero embodying a significant part of the story. Personally, I loved the impact and effects of Urbosa's skills. Her presence throughout the game was unmatched.
Of course, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is full of appealing heroes beyond those mentioned. The reliable Goron Daruk, the elegant and powerful Zora Mipha, the sky-soaring Rito Revali—each Champion possessed unique fighting styles and charms. Even future heroes like Prince Sidon, Yunobo, Teba, and Riju made playable appearances, adding a fresh dynamic. Mastering each character's unique actions and strategizing different combinations in battle is the core appeal of this game. Who was your favorite character? Let's discuss in the comments!
